There is exciting news about a new system to help you make money with the world’s largest affiliate network, Clickbank.

If you haven’t heard about affiliate marketing before then you’re in for a surprise. Affiliate marketing is a way to earn commissions from promoting someone else product. Basically, you are doing the advertising for them, sending traffic to their site (with a code linked to you) and they pay you when a sale occurs. It is beneficial for vendors because their costs are lower as they only pay when the sale is made. So it’s a win/win for all parties involved. That’s why it’s something you should not ignore.

Clickbank is a repository of digital products like software and eBooks. There are products for all kinds of interests and niches. Clickbank is likely to be one of the first places you would go to find interesting digital products to sell online. Why? It’s easy to join, use and is very reliable in handling commissions (unlike some other affiliate networks where you must submit an application and be accepted).

So what is the drawback? Unfortunately there are many. So, what are they?

Firstly, because the site has so many product choices it’s hard to decide which ones you want to promote and which ones are top sellers.

Second, looking for a particular product on Clickbank can be difficult. Sometimes, even searching for the exact name doesn’t find it.

Third, when you find a product which you believe is just the right one, you have to learn how to promote it. Naturally, even if it’s the best product in the universe if you can’t get the message out so interested people can access (and importantly, buy) it’s no worth a dime to anyone.

Fourth, many affiliate products listed in Clickbank do not provide marketing tools, like articles, banners etc to ease your marketing burden.

Fifth, when you do make a sale it’s generally a one-off commission to you, with no future linking of the prospect to you.

The usual marketing system has been something like this:-

Research a niche
Find a product
Buy a domain name ($)
Buy web hosting ($$)
Write sales copy and create a video to complement the product
Develop a “free bonus” to entice buyers
Buy an auto-responder service ($$$)
Set up your website and place the copy on a squeeze page (also called an opt-in page) and place the auto-responder code on it.
Develop an auto-responder email series
Write and set up a “Sales Page” with your affiliate links
Write and Set up a “Thank You” page
Set up and pay for a Pay Per Click campaign to get traffic to your new site ($$$$)
Implement other traffic strategies like social media, article marketing, forum and email etc.

Unless you have a lot of knowledge (technical, copywriting skills etc) this path can be long and arduous, not to mention expensive. Not all the cost is actual money out of your pocket, don’t forget the cost of your time and loss of opportunity.

The internet marketing gurus have been selling their courses primarily based on this business model. Of course, these people usually have employees (in an actual office or virtual assistants either based at home or sometimes in places like India or the Philippines) who do most of the grind and technical stuff for them, while their job is to get up on stage and promote like crazy. It’s a business model which has made many millionaires – mainly the people promoting the courses. On the side of the budding entrepreneur (being one person trying to do all that stuff) while there must be success stories, the vast majority suffer (despite long hours of learning and hard work) growing frustration and disappointment.

While you can’t actually say the gurus have been lying to us they certainly haven’t been telling the whole story about the resources you need to really succeed. Plus most aspiring internet marketers try to do all of the work themselves, in their “spare” time while they are working full time. It’s a recipe for despair.

Of course there are other internet business models, like blogging. To make a living from blogging requires at lot of ingredients, like, the right market, lots of other technical “learning curve” stuff, plus a passion for the topic and finding ways to monetize it. If you’re not passionate you will just give up. Imagine blogging about a topic in which you have no personal interest, it would just be tedious.

Finding Products to Sell Online

How do you find them?

There are literally thousands of products you can sell online – without creating your own.

There are “hard” products. Physical products like, for instance teeth whitening.

There are “soft” information products which are digital – delivered instantly by a download. Audio, video, software downloads are becoming more common, and of course there the more familiar ebooks or reports.

One problem I personally found was actually locating a particular product I knew was available. Even if I knew the product was available through , for instance, the ClickBank marketplace, I often couldn’t find it. Frustrating!

I happy to tell you that I’ve found a free tool to overcome that problem. It allows you to search all ClickBank products, plus there are products from another company called PayDotCom (similar to Clickbank but also has higher priced products). Information Products to Automate Your Income

Having an online business may be a dream for many. The process of how to achieve this goal can be daunting.

Having your own product (I’m talking about a ebook – information product here) can be almost like a license to print money. What do I mean? Your website selling your product is “out there” on the internet 24/7. It’s working for you, instead of you doing physical work.

Is it easy? Well, No and Yes. Mmmm… That’s confusing!

What is required? A professionally written book and sales page. A domain name, web hosting, a system to allow your customers to obtain their product and collect money from them. These are the mechanics of the process. Let’s rate the ease or difficulty of each and the cost.

Writing the ebook – it is possible to do this yourself if you have the subject knowledge and ability to write, or you can pay for someone else to write it for you. Free if you do it yourself or say around $500 if you pay someone else ( a ghost writer).

The sales page – this could be considered an art form. A properly constructed and written sales page is crucial to getting your potential customers to buy. Cost – the very best writers can charge thousands.

A domain name – registering a domain name is easy. Getting the right one, descriptive of your product etc, can be more difficult. Cost around $20.

Web Hosting – very easy. Cost around $10 a month.

Developing a website – technically easy when you know how, very difficult when you don’t. Fortunately there are thousands of people who can do it for you. Costs vary too much to quote a number.

A system to handle the sales process – easy. Clickbank is a very reputable company which handles this process.

So, if it’s all pretty easy then what’s the hard part? Getting the product right.

As you can imagine, the product you develop needs to appeal to the right group of people. People who desperately want the information, and are willing to pay for it. Who are the people you are selling your product to? Generally, there are two types of people who buy information products:-

Passionate people – people who have a fanatical interest and will readily pay for information in their particular area of interest.

Desperate people – people who have a problem they desperately need to solve and who will pay for information to ease their pain. I don’t mean to be at all disrespectful to these people, in fact one reason I love this sort of business is that you can help people.

If there is no compelling reason for people to buy a product then they probably won’t. I rate potential product ideas by simply asking are there:-

passionate people
desperate people
who cares.

Examples of products for the above could be:-

Parrot fanciers who want more information about their favorite pet – passion!
Someone who needs urgent help to write a speech – desperation!
20 ways to knit dolls clothes – who cares!

Other things to consider are:

Will your audience pay for the information? Sometimes there are lots of people with a particular area of interest who expect free information or just can’t afford to pay for your product.
Is there already too much competition? Too many other information products on the same topic?
Is the topic just a fad which people will lose interest in quickly? You want an “evergreen” product – with a long lasting topic.

You can see that selection of the topic is crucial to your success, otherwise you run the risk of creating a product which, although it may be wonderful, no-one will buy.

Totally solve the product issue…

So how can you get an advantage? Look for products which have been created by someone who has done the research and product creation work for you. Are these products readily available? The good news is, Yes!

What you want to look for is something called “PLR” – Private Label Rights – meaning you own the rights to label the product as your own, yes you can be the author.
