Last month I attended Ross Goldberg’s Virtual Internet Marketing Masters Seminar.

I received an interesting email today.

It’s a true story about how a simple WordPress blog initiated by a father for his two sons (one is only 6) managed to beat out huge companies with huge websites (like Flickr and Alibaba) for top spot in Google. Without even trying they were number 1 out of 944,000 and getting over 3,000 unique visitors per month.

The blog was for his young kids to update, so it was very simple and contained ONLY post titles and pictures (of a certain kind of toy). Yes that’s right, no fancy stuff like content, keywords, widgets, articles, backlinks – just titles and pictures.

They weren’t selling anything, but people were asking to buy stuff!

The boys are Ewen Chia’s sons and he reckons the reason for the top Google placement is the pictures.
